Accounting Manager/Controller – New Castle Delaware

Our HVAC installation and maintenance client in New Castle, DE, is looking for a proactive, team-oriented full-time Accounting Manager/Controller.  This position will be responsible for all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and benefits of the organization, and supervise 1-2 employees.  The Accounting Manager/Controller reports directly to the President and General Manager.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare entries to general ledger, documenting business transactions
  • Preparing adjusting journal entries for prepaid expenses, accruals, capital leases, acquisition of assets
  • Reconciling general ledger accounts to bank statements, credit card statements, and loan statements
  • Preparing all financial reports for management in an accurate and timely manner
  • Preparing job cost and work-in-process reports and interpreting that information for management
  • Analyzing financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital
  • Ensuring the company is in compliance with all local, state, and federal tax filings (including payroll taxes)
  • Keeping the President and General Manager informed of the company’s financial status
  • Dealing with bonding and AIA billings
  • Preparing projections to show effects of proposed plans on capital investments, income, cash position, and overall financial condition
  • Evaluating and administering all employee benefit programs, including working with benefit broker
  • Overseeing the company’s 401k plan administration
  • Reviewing business insurance policies to ensure they are adequate and renewal costs are in line
  • Preparing payroll, reviewing payroll reports, and paying payroll taxes
  • Applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare other financial reports as requested
  • Working with the outside CPA firm at year end

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 5-8 years’ experience handling all accounting functions and payroll for a $6-8 million organization
  • Experience with construction industry and job costing is preferred
  • Strong computerized accounting system background (experience with Jonas Construction software is preferred)
  • Proficiency in a Windows environment with MS Office Suite
  • Employee benefits administration and payroll experience
