Job summary minimum requirements: Work to maintain the company’s high quality standards.  Ensure that all parts produced and shipped, are of the highest quality, and meet or exceed all quality specifications. Quality Inspectors are responsible that proper product handling procedures are used, that only quality approved product is packaged, and that any product received, or produced meets any specific quality requirements.

Work experience required: 1 year Manufacturing environment, or similar experience, preferably in Plastics.

Education required: High school diploma

Summary of essential job functions and minimum requirements:

  • Perform the 1st Piece for any job start-up or secondary operation start-up. (last pieces are only used if specifically directed to retain)
  • 1st Pieces are to be displayed at the press, or the secondary operation, and used as a reference for operators.
  • Use proper scanning procedures for all products and ensure scanning accuracy.
  • Train back-up quality inspector(s) on your shift to the current practices or any modifications to such.
  • Complete all required quality documentation legibly and completely, such as “Inspection Checklist”, “In-Process Inspection Report”, “Mold Set-Up Checklist and First Piece Sign-Off”, Production sheets, etc., and file or forward as necessary to the appropriate area.
  • Communicate with the previous shift to clearly understand any quality problems they encountered during their shift.
  • Check parts for compliance to quality standards and 1st piece displayed samples. Check for all quality characteristics and visual non-conformances such as splay, burns, shorts, contamination, cleanliness, excess glue, etc.
  • Note any non-conformances and address with the shift supervisor or appropriate personnel to resolve. All non-conforming product is to be quarantined and rejected, for further evaluation per the SOP for Non-Conforming Reports.
  • Ensure that the operators are performing the job properly, and re-instruct them as needed. Verify that the operator is aware of the proper work instructions and observe that they are following them.
  • Verify and record the weights (where required) at each press at least twice a shift.
  • While making your scheduled rounds verify that the proper materials, box quantities, labels, bags, screws, assembly items, and boxes are being used.
  • Check all actual packaging against the provided packaging instructions.
  • Check cycle times of each operation that we are within stated cycle time as displayed in IQMS, and if not, address with Production Foreman, and quarantine and audit any production outside of this cycle time for warp, fit/function, etc.
  • Audit parts or assemblies within packaged cartons, for conformance to quality and packaging standards and requirements.
  • Place the carton label on the approved/audited and completed box. Scan carton labels to the Pallet label, apply shift stamp or label onto carton label, and record it on the production sheet.
  • Check that all previous production labels, boxes, etc., are removed from work center before next job is started.
  • After a pallet is completed, identify that by marking, sticker, or initialing the master pallet label, and notify the material handler so he can remove it. Pallet label must be scanned to the intended location.
  • Instruct operators to use scales, check fixtures, Go/No Go gages, or any other similar equipment for production, as needed.
  • Ensure that all inspection equipment such as scales, gages, check fixtures, etc., have current calibration labels and that they are in proper working condition.
  • Assist in giving breaks to production staff as needed.
  • If you discover bad parts, notify the supervisor and scrap the parts, and record the scrap numbers on the production documentation, and quarantine any suspect parts.
  • If there is disagreement with the Production Supervisor as to whether the parts should meet minimal quality standards, place the parts in QC hold and write an NCR report, and attach to the product, so it can be checked further by Quality Management.
  • Treat all secondary operations as if they were a press.  All production procedures pertain to these jobs as well, including 1st Piece Evaluations.
  • Make sure the operators are trimming gates flush, and any flash, if needed.  Any excessive flash is to be reported to the Supervisor.
  • You are expected to communicate with the Quality inspector from the prior and subsequent shifts, every shift, verbally, and/or in the notebook provided, as to quality issues, status of rework, new jobs, special projects, or customer issues.
  • Communicate with the Quality Assurance Manager or other appropriate personnel to address ongoing issues, improvement suggestions, and problem resolutions.
  • If questions of quality conformance cannot be answered by inspecting/comparing master, or previous 1st Piece samples, then notify the Quality Assurance Manager for resolution, and/or write an NCR report for product.
