Janelle Mercado, Strategic-Partner
I've worked almost exclusively in the staffing industry for most of my career. Starting out as a receptionist for a Bay Area agency 27 years ago, I quickly moved into payroll processing and light technical recruiting.
I took a brief break to attend college, but I soon returned to the staffing industry – working first as a recruiter with PrideStaff, and then as a branch manager with a competing firm.
After 10 years in this role, my largest client decided to start their own staffing firm. They recruited me to manage their entire staffing operation. You could say I was a "one-woman show," as I handled everything from payroll to recruiting, and from ensuring safety to managing workers' comp claims.
It was shortly after this time that a PrideStaff Owner/Strategic-Partner contacted me with an ownership opportunity in the Stockton area. Given my depth of experience, passion for staffing and entrepreneurial bent, I couldn't refuse!
The Big Picture:
More than anything, I appreciate how consistently PrideStaff trains its core team and conducts business. Our processes, resources and support are uniform no matter where people engage us, and these translate into exceptional experiences for clients and candidates.
The PrideStaff mission, "Consistently provide client experiences focused on what they value the most," is much more than a "nice idea"; it's the way our organization drives success and creates lifelong relationships, every day.
The Scoop on Staffing:
During my years in the staffing industry, I've been called an "angel"; I've been called a "life saver." Names like these make it clear how vital a role staffing plays in serving Stockton area businesses.
Whether it's a manufacturing facility, retail operation or local business, PrideStaff's Workforce Growth Solutions, On Target fulfillment and Quality Assurance process save employers time, money and effort. Clients can rapidly access the people they need, evaluate candidates' fit on the job, and feel confident they've found the perfect match.
Secrets to Success:
For me, it's pretty simple: I follow through on whatever I start.
Too often, I've seen sales and management professionals make commitments to clients or candidates and then fall short. I don't work that way. If I say I'm going to do something, I do it – and so far, this approach has served me quite well.
Beyond that, I feel it's essential to give individuals the personal attention they deserve. Only by understanding each client's unique needs – and then making fulfilling those needs a priority – can one achieve sustained success in this industry.
I'm a soccer mom, wife to a soccer coach, and mother to a goalie. Most weekends, we travel as a family in our RV to competitions all over the region.
I love seeing different areas, watching my son compete on his club and high school teams, and connecting with new people wherever tournaments take us.
It's a great way to de-stress and re-energize, so I can meet each week's business challenges with a healthy mindset.
