School is Back in Session: 10 College Majors with The Highest Starting Salaries
As the world continues to change in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s difficult to predict what the future holds. For students entering college, it’s anyone’s guess what professions will bring the most satisfaction, success, and compensation.
However, a report from US News strongly indicates that students pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) degrees will find themselves in the money, according to the nationally representative Online Salary Survey by Payscale.
Here are 10 college majors with high earning potential in 2022:
Applied mathematics. Median starting salary: $71,000
An applied mathematics degree focuses on the theory and application of mathematics to other disciplines to solve practical problems in business, government, engineering, and science.
Industrial engineering. Median starting salary: $71,200
Industrial engineering involves designing and analyzing systems that include workers, machines, materials, and information to improve performance in the workplace.
Materials science and engineering. Median starting salary: $71,300|
A materials science and engineering degree will prepare you to work with metals, ceramics, plastics, and other materials to create new materials that will power modern industries and innovations.
Biomedical engineering. Median starting salary: $71,400
Biomedical engineers combine engineering principles with sciences to design and create equipment, devices, computer systems, and software to improve human health.
Chemical engineering. Median starting salary: $75,200
Chemical engineering involves producing and manufacturing products through chemical processes, often developing efficient commercial processes to convert raw materials into usable products.
Aerospace engineering. Median starting salary: $75,300
An aerospace engineer designs, tests, and manages aircraft, spacecraft, and related systems and equipment manufacturing.
Electrical engineering. Median starting salary: $ 75,700
